Please join us in celebrating the amazing individuals at the heart of who we are and what we do. Learn more about what makes us tick as you get to know our diverse team

From HR consultants, IT personnel and administrative associates to account managers and sales leaders, our team members are dedicated to client success and community involvement—even if we must do it from a safe distance for the foreseeable future.

This month meet Tom Roberts. He joined the McClone family nearly two years ago and works primarily out of our Sheboygan office. In his role as Business Development Specialist, Tom represents McClone within the community, fostering relationships and introducing prospective clients to our innovative approach to risk management.

Let’s learn more about him.

What is your role on the team?

My role as a Business Development Specialist is all about building relationships. The McClone risk management philosophy is that solutions should be tailored to the individual needs of the clients. So, the first step in our process is discovering what makes an organization unique. That’s where I come in—I spend most of my time connecting with prospects and clients to learn about their business (vision, initiatives and goals) and to help identify areas of risk.

I then work internally with my team to develop a strategy that best addresses the needs of the client. Finding the best solutions and strategies requires that I stay up to date with market trends, local and national news, current partner products and new innovations.

I love that my job allows me to connect in meaningful ways with my community. As our president and CEO says, “When we do our jobs well, we allow families to be better protected and businesses to be more sustainable.”

What are some of your favorite things about your job?

My favorite task is networking and collaborating with people both in and out of the office. Working in multiple arms of McClone, I am always moving in multiple directions, and that's the way I like it.

I am hard to catch in the office as my role typically has me out in the community. This has become a running joke with one of my office colleagues. Every time she sees me in this office, she says, “You’re never here!.” We laugh because if I am doing my job well, I’m not supposed to be around. I enjoy the teasing friendship I have with my coworkers.

Why do you choose to work for McClone?

If I am being blatantly honest … I never—ever—thought I would work in the insurance industry. Prior to meeting Dustin McClone and the team, I didn't believe this was the industry for me. My goal has always been to find jobs that provide opportunities for me to participate in my community and advocate for the people and causes I care about.

I am a founding member of the United Way Emerging Leaders in Sheboygan County, and I am a member of Habitat for Humanity Lakeside Resource Development Committee.

I work for McClone because the company’s mission and values align with mine: “to have a long-term positive impact in every community we serve.”

I remember saying to Dustin, "If our values line up, then I am confident I can learn the rest." I am truly glad to be a part of this mission.

What are you ambitious about?

My personal goal is to be considered a trusted advisor in my community.

My career goal is to grow into an executive level management position within the next 10 years. I have the aptitude to develop into a strong leader in an organization, and I have great examples to follow at McClone.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I have a passion for storytelling and music. I am a classically trained vocalist and stage actor. My wife and I direct and produce a summer music show for young adults in the area.

Tricia and I have been married for almost four years. We have a nearly 3-year-old named Hugh and a 1-year-old named Liv. We also have a sassy puggle named Pippa.

I play hockey & rugby, and love to play games with friends. My family spends a lot of time outdoors going for walks and runs.
